Barcelona announced on Tuesday that sporting director Matteo Alemany will leave the club at the end of this season, although he is still under contract until 2024.

Mateu Alemany leaves FC Barcelona.

Alemany joined FC Barcelona after Joan Laporta won the 2021 presidential election.

During his time at the club, he managed to work wonders in the transfer market, helping the club complete deals that seemed impossible (including the transfer of Robert Lewandowski).

Although Alemany will no longer be an employee of the club from July 1, he has agreed to help Barcelona complete the summer transfer window, which was a key condition for Laporta to accept his resignation.

While Barca say Alemany will “start a new professional project”, ESPN reports he will join manager Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

Barcelona also confirmed that they will soon announce the structural changes that will take place at the club following Alemany’s decision to leave.

Mateu Alemany can be replaced in “Barcelona” by Jesus Angoy or Antonio Cordon.
