It cannot be said that everything is rosy for the automotive industry now. And for good reason, since inOutbreak of COVID-19, and even a little earlier, the latter is in a not very good position. He really has to face many limitations, already environmental, but not only. It is still affected by the semiconductor shortage, which is gradually beginning to shrink, but which is still far from over. In addition, manufacturers are also finding it more difficult to sell their new cars, while demand seems to be plummeting for some time. And the rise in prices is probably not related.

A small increase

Thus, sales of new cars are at their lowest level in several months. But there seems to be little improvement, however, as evidenced by recent data from Automotive Platform (PFA). Indeed, the number of registrations in April increased by 21.9% compared to the same month of the previous year. Thus, at least 553,396 new cars have been sold since the beginning of the year, which corresponds to 16.7% growth compared to 2022. So it’s a little bit better, but we’re still a long way from pre-Covid levels at the moment. And it may take some time.

Renault tempts many

However, several brands manage to get out of the game, among them Renault, whose sales in April increased by 50.7%. This also applies to Dacia, whose number of registered cars increased by 63.4% in the same period. For its part, Stellantis recorded a slight increase of 5.7%, including 10.6% for Citroën and 6.1% for Peugeot. A very positive slight increase, although Jeep and Fiat experienced sharp declines in registrations. However, the overall trend at the beginning of the year for brands remains quite encouraging.
