According to the Illinois police, six people died, more than 30 were taken to hospitals.
The tragedy unfolded on May Day around 11:00 am (local time) on the highway connecting the metropolitan areas of St. Louis and Chicago. The vehicles collided about three kilometers in both directions on a highway near Farmersville as the dust blinded the drivers.

Victims from 2 to 80 years old, the condition of several of them is assessed as serious.
“Approximately 30 utility trucks and 40 to 60 passenger cars collided,” including two semi-trailers that “caught fire,” police said.

The collision was due to “strong winds that carried dust from the fields onto the highway, reducing visibility,” he said.
