All retailers in Romania have agreed to voluntarily reduce the prices of milk of Romanian origin by at least 20% from May 1, and in the following period they will negotiate with every processor they cooperate with, the Competition Council announced.
“During May, we will see a significant reduction in fresh milk prices on the shelf, given that retailers have confirmed their participation in the voluntary agreement.
It may take several days to implement this measure in all stores, given that contracts with each manufacturer must be renegotiated and existing stocks are depleted. We expect consumption to increase within six months of the contract.
In addition, economic forecasts indicate that inflation will decrease, and therefore we will no longer record such a high increase in food prices,” said Bohdan Chiritsoyu, president of the antimonopoly agency.
According to the cited source, a voluntary agreement between retailers and processors to reduce the price of fresh milk for consumption should be applied from May 1, as was decided at a meeting with Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke of representatives of farmers, processors of the food industry. , the Association of Large Retail Networks from Romania and the Association of Goods Distribution Companies from Romania.
Therefore, a reduction of at least 20% of the shelf price will be applied to milk of Romanian origin, which currently costs more than 7 lei/litre, not included in any promotion, and will be shared between retailers (minimum 10%) and processors (minimum 10%). (Agerpress)
