Mark Selby became the first player in history to make the maximum break in the final of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible (147 points). The Englishman leads 9-8 before the final two sessions with Luca Bresel.

Mark Selby, the first player in history to make a maximum break in a Crucible final

Selby leads 9-8, but on Sunday he did something unique: he made the first maximum break (147 points) in a World Championship final.

It was the 189th biggest televised break in snooker history. According to Eurosport, Selby became the tenth player to make the maximum break in the Crucible.

Selby will share the £55,000 bonus (the one awarded for the maximum break) with Kieren Wilson (he broke at 147 in the first round of the Crucible).

The final two sessions of the Crucible Finals will take place on Monday, May 1 at 3:00pm and 9:00pm respectively. The competition can be watched live on Eurosport.

How to play in the World Snooker Championship Final

In the grand final, the winner will be determined by the “best of 35 frames”.

There were 8 frames in the first session of the final. The second session consisted of 9 frames, the third of 8 frames. Finally, the final session will have a maximum of 10 frames (may or may not all be played, depending on the score on the table).

Second place: £200,000
