In the most spectacular match of the third round, the first set was even and reached a tie-break, where the Dane suffered a decisive defeat – 7-1.
The winner of the ATP tournament in Munich 10 days ago won his second set after losing two serves from the Spaniard.
The deciding match again went to a tie-break, where Davydovich Fokina remained more focused and managed to qualify for the next round after 7-5.
In the 1/8 finals, Alejandro Davidovych Fokina will meet the Croatian Borna Coric (20 ATP).
The ATP Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the ATP 1000 category, has a total prize money of 7,705,780 euros, and the titular champion is Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
