The Romanian men’s handball team was defeated by the Ukrainian national team on Sunday night (26:31), but after a 28-year break qualified for the 2024 European Championship.

Romania qualified for the final European tournament after a 28-year break

Javi Pascual’s side lost their second successive Group 4 match of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers but booked their place in the final tournament despite losing to Ukraine.

In the last match of the previous group, the tricolors lost the match to Ukraine with a score of 31-26.

The best scorers of Romania were Stanchuk and Negru, who scored 6 goals each.

Germany will host the final tournament in 2024 from January 10 to 28.

Four teams qualified directly: Germany, as well as 2022 winners Sweden, Spain and Denmark. France also qualified on Saturday night after a 30-27 win over Poland, looking to reach the final tournament for the 16th time in a row.

Romania last participated in the final European tournament in 1996, when they finished 9th out of 12.
