Little Dillon Reeves “jumped out of his seat, dropped his backpack, ran to the front of the bus, grabbed the steering wheel and managed to stop the bus in the middle of the road,” Robert Livernois, superintendent of public schools in the Michigan county, said Thursday at a news conference.

The driver of the bus, which was bringing about 60 students home from Carter College in the city of Warren, north of Detroit, on Wednesday, suddenly passed out while driving, he said in a statement earlier in the day.

In a video released by authorities, the driver can be seen feeling sick and passed out, before a student can be seen taking control of the bus, slamming on the brakes and managing to stop the vehicle amid the panic and screams of frightened children.

He shouted to his classmates to “call the rescuers immediately.”

Rescuers and police then took the driver, who was hospitalized and in stable condition, CNN reports.

This student’s reaction “did everything possible,” emphasized Robert Livernois.

Dillon Reeves “avoided what could have been a very tragic accident,” city councilor Jonathan Lafferty said in a Facebook post.

The boy’s parents, Steve and Iretha Reeves, were emotional, praising their son at a press conference and calling him a “little hero.” (News.ro)
