On Friday, he said he had discussed the matter with EU Council President Charles Michel.

“I emphasize that this not only violates the existing Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, but also gives dangerous hopes to the Kremlin. The hope that in our common European home, someone’s wrong decisions can prevail over common interests.”

Zelensky added: “It is necessary to find a normal, constructive way out of this situation in the European spirit.”

The European Commission announced on Friday that it had reached an agreement with five EU states, including Poland, Romania and Hungary, to guarantee the transit of Ukrainian grain after an import ban imposed by several of these countries was deemed “unacceptable” by Brussels.

The commission reached an “agreement in principle” with the four countries, as well as Romania, on Friday to “address the concerns of both Ukraine and neighboring EU countries,” Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis announced.

The agreement provides for an end to the unilateral restrictive measures taken by these countries, in exchange for “exceptional protective measures” for four Ukrainian products that are considered “the most sensitive”: wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflower seeds.

Assessments will also be conducted on other Ukrainian products, such as soybeans and olive oil.

On April 19, the Commission also pledged an additional €100 million in aid for affected farmers in the five countries, following an initial €56.3 million package at the end of March of funds taken from the Common Agricultural Policy crisis.

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Petre Daea told Agerpres that Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria will abandon the unilateral measures they have taken over grain imports from Ukraine.

“The European Commission has announced that the four countries are abandoning the unilateral measures they have taken, but also that it will immediately propose joint measures for the five countries, banning the import, as we proposed, of four products, namely wheat, corn. , sunflower and rapeseed. Imports will be suspended until June 5, and the continuation of this decision will be analyzed later, depending on the situation,” Petre Daea emphasized.
