
For brutal beating of an 11-year-old student in the courtyard of a school in Patisia Alexandros Koptsis, sergeant, spoke to ERT. Ministry of Education.

“Be sure that, as always, responsibilities will be distributed,” he assured and added that “we react with lightning speed, and at the central level, and not just with our leaders.”
However, he pointed out that “when we talk about children, we must be very careful, and I don’t want to say anything before examining all phenomena, because we are talking about the souls of children and balancing on the one hand, the imposition of consequences where they exist and are naturally condoned, and above all, in the social inclusion of all children, whether they are perpetrators or victims, and the rationale comes from many, many environments.”

Regarding whether the incident with the beating of the 11-year-old boy was noticed by the teachers, as it happened in the school yard, Mr Koptsis said that “it happened. We talk all the time and we already have a full briefing,” but he didn’t expand because, in his words, “we want to explore all aspects and all aspects of this particular issue.”
As he pointed out, “the fight against violence requires fundamental interventions, because the problem is multifactorial, and that is what we are doing. In addition to the rich and targeted actions that we have developed, this is our goal with the new law. Change the culture regarding the prevention and treatment of school violence. and that takes time.”
At the same time, he expressed confidence that “this culture will change. It doesn’t change easily. It requires the mobilization of forces not only on the part of the school, which is not the main reason for the existence and appearance of these phenomena, but also on the part of the family and the general environment.
