Spain’s foreign ministry has summoned Russia’s ambassador over a video posted on the embassy’s social media accounts that falsely depicts Spanish troops fighting in Ukraine, AFP and the Guardian reported.
AFP quoted Spanish media as saying the video, which has since been deleted, showed what the embassy said were Spanish soldiers on the battlefield, alongside footage of Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles saying that no NATO country’s troops, including Spain’s , there will never be a struggle in Ukraine.
The ministry demanded the “immediate” removal of the video and summoned Russia’s ambassador to Madrid “to protest social media attacks against the government.”
Robles reiterated on Friday that “there are absolutely no NATO troops in Ukraine, no Spanish soldiers belonging to the armed forces of Spain or the armed forces of any NATO country.” No one.”
She accused Russia of “using all kinds of methods, including disinformation, to undermine the friendship of nations that are part of the European Union and NATO.”
Fake video could not be recovered by AFP.
