During the night from Thursday to Friday, Russian troops launched missile strikes in remote areas of Ukraine, from the capital Kiev to central Ukraine and southern Mykolaiv region, killing at least 13 civilians.
The Ukrainian capital and cities in different parts of the country were shaken by numerous explosions, according to the Ukrainian news agency Interfax and messages on social networks.
The military command of Kyiv assured that the air defense had taken action. Air defense forces shot down 21 cruise missiles and a drone in the airspace of Kyiv out of 23 sent by the Russians.
But other rockets hit the central Ukrainian city of Uman, killing at least 11 civilians in an apartment building, local authorities said.
Videos posted on social media show part of an apartment building on fire. Part of the building collapsed, scattered debris and pieces of concrete are visible on the street.
The head of the Cherkasy region, Igor Tamburets, said that two cruise missiles hit a residential building and a warehouse building in Uman. Another nine apartment buildings were damaged. Already 11 people have been extracted dead, nine more wounded are being treated, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
It is reported that among the dead were two children aged about 10 years.
“The enemy has again attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement.
“The targets of the terrorists are civilians and objects. As a result of rocket fire in Uman, about 10 apartment buildings were damaged. In one of them, the entire entrance was destroyed. People are left in ruins. Unfortunately, there are wounded and dead, among them a child,” the Ukrainian leader added.
Another rocket strike in Dnipro, central Ukraine, claimed the lives of two people in the early hours of the morning, namely a woman and a small child, Mayor Boris Filatov said.
“A young woman and a three-year-old boy died,” Mr. Filatov said via the Telegram platform, without specifying information about the casualties and destruction.
According to the Ukrainian authorities, two civilians, including a 13-year-old girl, were injured in a terrorist attack in Kyiv. According to Western estimates, the injuries were likely caused by shrapnel from Russian missiles shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.
According to online reports and information from the Ukrainian Interfax, explosions also occurred in the cities of Kremenchug and Poltava (central).
“Rescuers and police are working at the places of hits. All assistance will be provided as soon as possible. And Russia once again confirmed its status as a killer country. We will take revenge,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said.
