Ukraine: One killed and 15 injured in Russian missile strikes on Nikolaev

A Russian rocket hit the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine after midnight, killing one person and injuring 15, authorities said.

“At about 01:00 (local and Greek time), residents of Nikolaev heard four loud explosions,” Mayor Alexander Senkevich said on Twitter. “We know that one of the rockets hit a high-rise residential building. Another one ended up in a private house.

The mayor added that power supply was interrupted in part of the city.

“At the moment, we have received information about 15 wounded and one dead,” said Vitaly Kim, head of the regional military command.

Mr. Kim and a police officer stated that the attack was on a residential building. According to information, the strike was carried out by S-300 missiles.

Mykolaiv is located on the Black Sea, about 170 kilometers from Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.

Russian troops have repeatedly struck the city since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

More than 8,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since then, according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The same source emphasizes that this number, which was last updated in mid-March, is probably an underestimate.

A rocket hit a museum in Kupyansk in northeastern Ukraine on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring ten. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the “barbaric” attack, once again accusing Russia, a “terrorist country”, of “doing everything to completely destroy us.”
