Cars with radar: will they soon be banned from driving in cities? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Almost today 400 radar cars cross France’s roads, regardless of whether they are privatized or managed by law enforcement officers. The task: drive away the slightest speeding to automate the distribution of VP at will!

According to the latest rumors, cars with radar may soon appear prohibited in some cities : indeed, these models are equipped diesel engines, which are in the EPZ sight zone. But what is it really?

Radar Cars: Soon to Be ZFE Incompatible?

In particular, 225 radar cars driven by private drivers in eight regions, as well as 156 other cars driven by the police, are equipped with diesel engines. Such a choice is connected, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the fact that “equipment built into the vehicle requires minimum engine power”.

Quite an ironic choice at a time when diesel fuel models are singled out by the same Government: indeed, EPZ (Low Emission Zones) is on the rise in major French cities, and some, such as Paris, plan to ban models equipped with Crit’Air 2 Sketchestherefore, all French motorists use diesel.

Yes, according to the latest rumors, cars with radar could do it soon it will be forbidden to enter the cities ! However, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt: indeed, the ban of the latest diesel cars is not yet in the news, and will only happen in, for example, 2024 in Paris or in 2028 in Lyon. , Strasbourg or Montpellier, although these calendars are still subject to change.

Cars with radar: EPZ is not a problem

However, the ZZZ is not a real problem, since the place of radar hunting is not the city, but especially the main roads. However, they may be affected by the ZFE if these main axes are located in a restricted traffic area.

But the ministry planned a parade: “The equipment is now being adapted to work with gasoline cars”. Therefore, the goal is to upgrade the fleet of radar cars with gasoline modelswhich are eligible for the Crit’Air 1 sticker. And since they average more than 250 km per day, or almost 100,000 km per year, the current radar cars will soon have to be replaced.

The government is also studying the possibility of replacing them with 100% electric models, to be 100% compatible with ZFE. But the question of autonomy will arise: indeed, the electric car stops while charging, and during this non-productive period, the balance of these formidable blinkers will have the same amount of PV less…
