Another new McLaren? Yes and no. Yes, because it is a genuine new model in the catalog, no this model is a significant evolution of the 720S model it replaces, knowing that we can’t call it a “restyled 720S” since it’s a true new model. Are you still following?
Anyway, here’s the new McLaren 750S, a new supercar based on the 720S with 30% new elements compared to the one it replaces.
McLaren 750S: The non-electrified V8 is still relevant
Let’s get straight to the heart of the matter with the engine. There is no 3.0-liter six-cylinder hybrid like the Artura, but the now well-known 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Power? 750 hp, as the name implies, and 800 Nm of torque. This is 30 hp. and 30 Nm more than the 720S. Engineers also included a new seven-speed sequential gearbox. Power, as before, is transmitted only to the rear wheels.
The McLaren 750S Coupé and Spider, because yes, the Woking firm also introduced a convertible at the same time, accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds. Acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h is claimed to take 7.2 seconds (7.3 for the Spider) and 0 to 300 km/h in 19.8 seconds (20.4 for the Spider). For both bodies, the maximum speed is about 330 km/h.
Compared to the 720S, the 750S received a six-millimeter wider front track and new suspension geometry. The car is equipped with a new generation Proactive Chassis Control III system with 3% softer front springs and 4% stiffer rear springs. The manufacturer has also improved the lift, which can now lift the front of the car in four seconds, up from around ten before.
McLaren 750S: evolution more than revolution
Aesthetically, the 750S is very similar to the 720S. However, some changes have occurred. Up front, a new panel directs air to updated, narrower air intakes that house LED lighting. A new, longer front splitter provides aerodynamic balance, and the active rear wing is 20% larger.
The rear is highlighted by an exhaust system with a central exhaust port inspired by the P1. This forced the engineers to move the active rear spoiler 5 cm higher. McLaren also gives the 750S larger rear air intakes, a new bumper and a new grille.
Alcantara interior is standard, with two optional trims: TechLux and Performance. The first cabin uses Nappa leather, while the Performance version combines leather and Alcantara. As you can see, apart from two or three details, The interior of the 750S looks like two drops of water compared to the 720S.
Good news, the screens got a new interface. The new McLaren Control Launcher allows drivers to save their preferred settings for aerodynamics, engine response and more. Another good news: Apple CarPlay is now standard.
McLaren 750S: Built for the track
Weight is the enemy of performance and McLaren has worked to reduce it. The carbon fiber racing seats are 17.5 kg lighter than the standard 720S seats. The Woking firm has also fitted the lightest wheels ever fitted to a production model, namely ten-spoke forged alloy wheels, which save an additional 13.8kg.
Thanks to all this, the 750S weighs around 30kg less than the 720S, with 1389 kg on the scale. The Spider version weighs only 49 kg more, 1438 kgin particular thanks to the roof mechanism and reinforcements.
McLaren has several track racer options in its range, starting with a Senna-inspired ring brake system with larger ceramic discs, monobloc calipers and Formula 1-inspired caliper cooling technology. Customers can also opt for ultralight carbon fiber racing seats that weigh just 3 .4 kg each or alternatively Pirelli P Zero Corsa or Trofeo R tyres.
The 750S can be ordered now. The first deliveries have not yet been announced, but the prices are. It will take at least 300,000 euros for the coupe and 315,000 euros for the Spider version.
