What an atmosphere reigned at the Gopo Awards 2023

Tudor Giurgiu presented a lifetime achievement award to an actress Americans would say “you don’t fit.” Ioana Crecunescu is “an actress, a poet, a director, a housewife who drank, who appreciates life well, she wanted to be a director, but ended up an actress. In college, she took a directing course and her passion for creativity followed. In the past, he worked with the great Bokanets on television. For me, it is the role of Ana from the film “At the End of the Line” by Dean Tenace. For this film, she was awarded eight years later, in France. In Mirchi Daneliuk’s “Special Edition”, the woman we remember has exceptional footage. She restored houses, lost a lot, but Ioana is a fighter, she published poems, recently performed under the direction of Cristi Puiu, in Silviu Purcărete. She was stubborn.”

“I, like others, am a complete beginner. I will put this little man on the bedside table and tomorrow morning he will wake up inside me with a flower in his hand. I forgive you!” – said the artist.

Ilinka Goya awarded the award for directing to Paula Negoescu for the film “Working People”.

Ion Popescu Gopo was “one of the most important directors and animators. His works are famous for their originality. Gopo created films that have remained alive, that have inspired generations of artists.” “For me, a child at the time, Gopo was a playmate because he was generous, kind,” Medea Marinescu said of the great director. “Hopo was a visionary, a master animator and a great director.”

Violinist Oleksandr Bemenescu highlighted a musical moment inspired by Gopo’s animations.

The Gopo Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, presented by actors Gabriela Popescu and Vasile Murau, went to Andrea Gramoshtianu for her role as Alina Moga in “#dogpoopgirl”. “I am on the stage of the National Theater for the first time. Thanks to those who voted for me. I thank Andrii Hutsuliak and the whole team, family,” said Andrea Gramoshtyan.

It was Marina Konstantinescu who presented the laudatio to Mircea Andreescu, awarded for all his activities. Actor Mircea Andreescu listened with tears in his eyes. “He finished in an exceptional streak with Valeria Sechiu, Rodica Mandace, Ovidiu Iuliu Moldovan. In the 90s, he finished a film with Danelik, rehearsed at Odeon, traveled between Bucharest and Brasov. I am passionate about this journey because this job means an imaginary adventure. I admired him in the films of Dan Chishu, Dan Pizzi, with Porumba. This actor, something like a grumpy Jean Gabin, receives from the guild the respect that the art and skill, courage and youth with which he set out on all the paths of his heroes deserve.

“I am very emotional because I did not expect so many good words. I had a hard life. This profession is hard, but also full of rewards,” said Mircea Andreescu on stage at the Gopo gala. “I watched how hard it was to carry the images of those who left, to no longer recognize editors or other contributors. I tell you that in I had a difficult evening, and it is a pity that some people with whom I worked with great success are missing: Dan Piza, Mircea Daneliuk…” – said the actor. “The important thing is that art saves us, and the awards continue,” concluded Marina Constantinescu.

Industry personalities who passed away last year were remembered in a special moment during the gala concert with a dirge sung by Sofia Vikovianka.

Immaculate director Monica Stan, winner of Best Debut Film, thanked the team and family.

The Gopo statuette was awarded to the script by Radu Romanyuk and Oana Tudor for the film “Working People”.

The winner of three Gopo Awards, Doina Levinza, was the one who was asked to present the award for Best Costumes: Joanie Kovalcic for Metro.

Film editors Melania Oproiu, Nita Kivulescu and Mircea Cocialtei have long applauded their fellow filmmakers for their significant contributions to some of Romania’s most important films.

Ophelia Popi won the Gopo Trophy for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Nicoletta in The Man and the Dog.

In the male category, the Gopo statuette was awarded to Vasile Muraru for his role as Mayor Kostike in the film “People of Action” directed by Paul Negoescu.

In memory of Nae Karanfil and his film “E pericoloso sporgersi” (1993), which will be re-released this year in a restored copy, the rock band Omul cu sobolani performed the song “Let’s emigrate to America”.

A funny moment of the gala concert, a film “with a strong emotional impact” from film buff Liviu Ragnea (played by Ionuc Roussou), who presented the recipe while commenting on the nominated films. “Americans make movies with a multiverse, we make movies with sarmals,” Ragnea concluded to the applause of the audience.

Award dedicated to the fight against domestic violence

“I want to dedicate this award to the fight against domestic violence,” said Teona Galgotsiou, director of Best Short Film, “I Want to Break the Greenhouse.”

After the first award of the evening, for image, the Romanian Society of Cinematography, awarded to Tudor Volodymyr Pandur for “Metron”, followed the first musical moment of the evening performed by the FloriMan project – Mircea Florian, Dietrich Krauser, DJ. Vasile – “Cu pleoapa silver”.

During the gala concert, Marius Manole honored the memory of Theodor Korban, an actor who died in January. “He had a chance to show what a great actor he is. He was an actor who spoke a lot with few means of expression,” says director Radu Muntian in the tribute film. “He had an extraordinary naturalness. He was one of those people with whom I liked to talk and with whom I liked to be silent,” says Dorian Bohutse.

“We were preparing for a big embarrassment,” Lia Bugnar joked at the opening of the gala concert. “You have 30 seconds,” Marius Manole warned the winners so “they don’t have any problems.” “To cause a little scandal, a little, whatever. Please One of the complaints last year was “sexism”. Now we have a number too,” the two joked.
