The arrest of a 56-year-old male from Albania was carried out at noon on Monday (24/4) by the Police Investigation Department, as he was subject to an Interpol Albanian international wanted red notice demanding his arrest for trafficking in minors.
According to the report, a 56-year-old man found in the Agios Nikolaos Pathisia area was sentenced to 15 years in prison for this crime.
In particular, according to the documents of the prosecution, the detainee, after contacts with gangs for the trafficking of underage children in Tirana, turned to the needy family of his compatriots and, having paid 100,000 Albanian leks, “bought” an 8-year-old underage boy.
Having transported him by an unknown route to Greece, he, using physical violence and threats, forced him to beg in different parts of Athens, transferring the money he earned to him.
He also likely coerced the minor into other illegal activities for his own financial gain.
The detainee is expected to be taken to the Athenian Appellate Prosecutor’s Office today.
