The number of soldiers Russia lost on the battlefield fell by about 30% in April compared to previous months, Britain’s military intelligence agency estimated on Tuesday morning.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense says the drop is likely due to the end of Russia’s near-miss winter offensive.

Moscow is probably now preparing its troops for a counteroffensive against Ukraine, the British military services say.

During April 2023, average daily losses in Russia fell by approximately 30%. This happens after the losses of the Russians were extremely high in January-March 2023.

Figures released by the Ukrainian General Staff indicate a decrease in average daily losses of Russians from 776 in March to 568 in April.

British military services say they cannot verify Ukraine’s methodology, but the general trend is likely accurate.

“It is likely that Russian casualties were reduced as their attempted winter offensive failed to achieve its objectives, and Russian forces are now focused on preparing for the expected Ukrainian offensive,” the British Ministry of Defense concluded.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on Tuesday that Russia has lost 187,770 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion, The Kyiv Independent reports.

This number includes 690 losses of Russian troops in the last day alone.
