Ons Jabert, the absolute champion, was forced to withdraw from WTA Madrid

In a post on social networks, the Tunisian reported that she injured her calf during the semifinals with Iga Sviatek from WTA Stuttgart.

“I have a small tear in my calf and I need more time to recover. I am sad to inform you that I will not be able to defend my title in Madrid” – Ons Jaber.

Ons Zhaber found herself on the same side of the table with Ana Bohdan (may meet her in the second round) and Iryna Begu (a possible duel in the third round). Her place was taken by the American Shelby Rogers (38 WTA).

Another top athlete who ended her career in Madrid is Karolina Plishkova, a former leader of the world hierarchy.

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay at the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
