
Sir Vasilios Markezinis has passed away. He suffered from dementia and died at Oxford at the age of 79.
This was announced by the honorary professor of medical school at King’s College London Nikandros Buras.
He was born in Athens in 1944 and is the son of the politician Spyros Marchesini. He received his degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens with a grade of 10 and his first PhD with honors.
He was a tenured professor at the University of Texas and a founder and director of the University of Texas International Law Institute at Austin. He was a professor at the University of London, where he founded and directed the Institute of World Law from 2001 to 2007, as well as Leiden University (Netherlands) and Oxford University, where he founded and directed the Institute of World Law from 1995 to 2001.
