Florence + Car, the popular British indie rock band, is back with a new single. The lyrics of the new song “Mermaids” describe the gloomy British weather and the dark side of society.

The song was released on April 21 and is similar in style to the band’s 2022 full album Dance Fever. The single, produced by Dave Bailey, refers to “sharp-toothed” mermaids who appear at night to drink, dance, and “sacrifice the human heart”.

Florence + The Machine have been waiting weeks on social media for the release of the single. The first post was made on April 6 via a video that included footage from mermaid horror movies. The clip announced to fans, “There will be a new song in the Dance Fever universe.”

Among other teasers, the band shared the cover of the single with fans. The cover is reminiscent of the cover of Dance Fever, hinting that the two projects may be related.

In March, the band covered No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” for inclusion in the second season of the popular Showtime network series.yellow jackets“.

Singer Florence Wells and the rest of the band are expected to appear on Sunday, July 2, 2023 on the Water Square in Faliro, as part of Eject Festival 2023.
