Russia’s Black Sea Fleet repelled an attack by remote-controlled unmanned surface ships (RCVs) in the port of Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula early Monday morning, the city’s Moscow-appointed governor said on a social network.
“According to the latest data, one remote-controlled uninhabited surface ship was destroyed (…), the second exploded on its own,” Governor Mikhail Razvozaev said via the Telegram platform.
“Now the city is quiet,” he added, adding that no damage was reported.
Sevastopol, like the rest of the Crimean peninsula, was annexed by Russia in 2014, which is not recognized by the international community.
There was no reaction from the Ukrainian authorities. Kyiv rarely publicly claimed responsibility for attacks in Russia or Ukrainian territories controlled by Russian forces.
