In the context of constantly monitoring the situation in Sudan and coordinating actions to free the Greeks from this country, two meetings of the Crisis Management Group led by Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias took place today with the participation of the official leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Greek Ambassador to Cairo and GEETHA. The first took place in the morning, and the second has just ended, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
After continuous messages from the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the safe release of Greek citizens from Sudan, the first group of Greek citizens, including two wounded, left Sudan with the help of France and flew to Djibouti. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed of this.
The Ambassador of Greece to Ethiopia and the honorary consul of our country in Djibouti are already in Djibouti to welcome specific Greek citizens and provide any assistance.
Nikos Dendias expressed his gratitude to his French colleague Catherine Colonnet, as well as to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Catherine Zaharopoulou, for France’s significant assistance in the safe removal of the aforementioned Greeks from Sudan.
The process and coordination with EU partners and allies to release the remaining Greeks and their family members is ongoing.
