“I am sure that we will not come to that and the academic year will end well. I think that this is what the teachers’ representatives want as well. Of course, we need to sit down at the table and find a solution,” said Ligia Deka, answering questions about the teachers’ strike, reports Agerpres.

She added that the Ministry of Education supports salary increases.

“Regarding the extraordinary order referred to by the trade unions, we in the Ministry of Education are already working out a number of comments for submission to the Ministry of Finance. As you know, the Ministry of Education is in favor of raising salaries and for the tariff scale to start at the initial level, which is equal to the average salary in the economy. We will do everything in our power to ensure that this need in the educational system is reflected in the regulatory framework,” Ligia Deka added.

Education unions have begun gathering signatures to initiate a general strike because their demands have not been resolved and the executive is set to make decisions with further negative impact on education workers, according to a statement sent out on Saturday.

Prior to the start of the general strike, the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI), the Federation of Education Trade Unions (FSE) “Spiru Haret” and the National Federation of Trade Unions (FNS) “Alma Mater” will again picket the government on April 25 and 26, and organize a protest march on May 10, where it is expected more than 15,000 trade union members, the source said.
