The FA Cup semi-final between Manchester City and Sheffield United is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at 6:45pm in London at Wembley Stadium and will be broadcast live on the Pro Arena.
Manchester City are aiming for the treble this season (Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup), while Sheffield United are hoping to double their promotion from the Championship with a major trophy.
Manchester City are second in the Premier League, five points adrift of leaders Arsenal (with two games in hand), with seven games to go, and this after a 1-1 draw in the Champions League at field of Munich “Bavaria” (after a home score of 3:0), going to play in the semi-finals of the competition with “Real”.
Pep Guardiola’s side reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after beating Chelsea (a) 4-0, Arsenal (a) 1-0, Bristol City (d) 3-0 and Burnley (a) 6-0.
Manchester City have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the sixth time in the last seven seasons (fifth in a row), but have only reached the final twice, winning the trophy once (in the 2018-2019 season, 6-0 in the final with Watford).
Sheffield United are 2nd in the Championship, 10 points behind leaders Burnley, but have seven more than Luton Town, a team in 3rd place, who they also played a match against (the first two placed directly to rise to the Premier League), with only three stages to the end of the championship.
In a surprise FA Cup draw 2022-23, Paul Heckingbottom’s side reached this stage of the competition after beating Millwall (d) 2-0, 3-3 (d) and Wrexham (a) 3-1, 1-0 Tottenham (a) and 3 -2 Blackburn Rovers (a).
It should be noted that Sheffield United have won all four of their FA Cup matches against Manchester City, most recently in the 2007-08 season when they won 2-1, and are attempting to reach the final for the first time since 1936 (since then it has been five eliminated in the semifinals twice).
The last time these two teams met was in the 2020-21 Premier League season, when Manchester City won 1-0 at Sheffield United both away (Walker, 28) and at home (G. Jesus, 9 ).
