In the run-up to the May 21 elections, Ms. Kalliopi Spanow will assume her duties as Acting Minister of the Interior.

Ms. Spanu is a professor of administrative sciences at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has served as an ombudsman.

Her oath will take place on Sunday at 18.00.


Her resume

Kalliopi Spanu is Professor of Administrative Sciences at the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens. He studied public law and political science and did postgraduate studies (University of Picardy) in France (Administrative Science DEA), where he received a doctorate in political science with a specialization in administrative sciences (Mention Très Honorable). During her studies, she received scholarships from the Stasinopoulos Foundation and the Ministry of National Economy (NATO). Her dissertation was awarded a publication grant from the French state.

He has been teaching at the PEDD EKPA Chair since 1989 and has also taught at the University of Amiens, the University of Paris II and the University of Versailles. He was a CNRS/EIE Fellow at the Center for Administrative Studies and a Visiting Professor of State at the London School of Economics and Nuffield College, Oxford. In February-July 2016, she was invited as a “Schumann Fellow” at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Study at the European University of Florence, and in July 2018 she was invited as a researcher at the Fondation de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (Paris).

In May 2011, he was elected Ombudsman by the Conference of Speakers of the House of Representatives, a position he left in October 2015. From 2003 to 2011, he also served as Assistant to the Ombudsman.

She has served as director of the Graduate Program in Public and Public Policy, a research advisor at the National Center for Public Administration, and has taught for many years at the National School of Public Administration. He was a scientific adviser to the Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization and participated in various expert commissions. He works as a public administration consultant for the OECD.

He was President of the Hellenic Society of Political Science and a member of the Steering Committee of the European Group of Public Administration, IIAS.

Her research interests cover issues of public administration and public policy (administration-citizen relations, administration-democracy, administrative reforms, environmental policy, social policy, administrative aspects of Europeanization, etc.). She is involved in European research networks and has completed three European programs as a research advisor in Greece, as well as a number of research programs in Greece.
