Mitsotakis: Will ‘extinguish’ the end of pretense over the next four years

“We are, in fact, one day before the official announcement of the elections. Tomorrow I will go to the President of the Republic and propose the dissolution of Parliament so that we can be led to the elections on May 21,” the MP said. Kyriakos Mitsotakis talking with the townspeople on the central square of the Megapolis, where he went as part of his tour of Argolis, Arcadia and Messinia.

The Prime Minister noted that he has been consistent in his commitments as the term of the ND government expires, “and we are approaching this pre-election period with the confidence of a party that is honoring the truth agreement we have signed with Greek men and women in July 2019″.

Mr. Mitsotakis recalled that during the pre-election period when he visited Arcadia, he devoted himself to restructuring the economy, with growth as his first goal. He said the development allowed the government to fulfill its campaign commitments, cut taxes and fees, attract investment and demand more European funds.

He also said the government has supported farmers against imported precision, which is a product of Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“Closer to society, no risk to financial stability”

“We didn’t do all this at the usual time. I want you to remember the crises we have been called upon to deal with in these four years, beginning with the migrant invasion of Evros in March 2020. Right after that, the pandemic, an unprecedented health crisis that forced us to virtually shut down the entire economy. But I do not believe that there is not a single Greek man, not a single Greek woman who does not admit that in this unprecedented health crisis, the state supported, supported business, supported workers, took over wages, gave reimbursable to move forward and support the productive fabric of the country,” the Prime Minister emphasized and added:

“At the same time, we had to deal with a difficult neighbor and, of course, recently with a big crisis in precision, imported precision. An inflationary crisis the likes of which we have not experienced in the past 40 years. And there, however, we stood next to the townspeople.

You will also see today that electricity prices for the next month have been announced and are relatively lower than previous prices. Do you remember that a year ago the first concern of the citizens was what we would do with our electricity bills, and you know very well that all this time in every electricity bill was what we would pay as the amount without the government subsidy that you in the end, they paid, precisely because the state took up the solution of the problem, found resources and supported households and businesses. Because it was our obligation. To be close to society in all difficulties, but at the same time without risking financial stability.”

He pointed out that from 2023 the country should, based on European rules, again be able to produce primary surpluses, but “precisely because we have very high growth, these primary surpluses are not only possible, they can be combined with further tax cuts and cuts in the employer contributions we are implementing during our second four-year term.”

“Over the next four years, the feigned collection will be “erased”

The prime minister announced that the claim fee would be abolished within the next four years and that his government would continue its policy of cutting taxes, supporting investment and strengthening Greece in a troubled neighbourhood.

“We will continue to defend our borders and despite all those who fight to the contrary, Mr. fence on Evros expands with or without European funds. It is very sad, my friends, that today some opposition MPs are fighting in the European Parliament for this fence not to be financed from European funds. Let all of us, that is, the Greek taxpayers, pay for a project that is needed not only by Greece, but by Europe as a whole,” he added.

Speaking about the problems that worry Megapolis, he said that he needs young farmers and breeders who can produce products at competitive prices. “To lower production costs overall, with photovoltaics that farmers and ranchers can use so you can really be competitive. This is our vision for the primary sector,” he stressed.

In addition, he promised to give the city the opportunity to develop, as it will gradually abandon brown coal.

“The next four years, if the Greek people trust us, will be four years when our attention will be turned even more intensively to those areas of the country that really need to be looked after, as the production of electricity from brown coal will decrease. The metropolis, here, the Ptolemaida region, the region of Western Macedonia, secured the maximum possible subsidies and funding. This, of course, will attract other investors who will come here to Megapolis. By always consulting with the region, as well as with the resources of the region and national resources, we can plan with you the future of the Megacity, which will be more optimistic and bright,” emphasized Mr. Mitsotakis.

He stressed that today Greece is in a much better position compared to where it was in 2019, and no one talks about our country as the “black sheep” of Europe.

Mr Mitsotakis said the big question in the election is “will we continue this course or will we risk everything and kick the milk cart to go back, I wonder where; What season? In an era of high taxes? In an era of open borders? In an age of closed banks? At a time when the Greek point of view did not matter in Europe or anywhere else in the world?”

He also noted that he himself had the courage to admit mistakes and take responsibility and emphasized that he was not going to say what should not be done. “You know, it’s very easy when you are the leader of the opposition and you more or less know that you will lose the election, to come and say: “I will cut taxes, I will raise salaries, I will write off all loans, I will give away houses.” And I don’t know what else Mr. Tsipras can tell you. But he’s said it before. He said it in Thessaloniki in 2014, you remember that, don’t you? “Tear up the memorandum with the law and the article”, “cancel all taxes.” And then we saw very well what happened. The third unnecessary memorandum, 90 billion, almost 100 billion on your backs and creeping Greece. Closed banks, queues at banks. Let’s remember this image, it’s not so far away that we forget it,” he added.

“To prevent the scenario of a political monster”

He reiterated that he was looking for comparisons, and that what was needed first was a stable government with a strong popular mandate. “In no case should we get involved in episodes of instability, in cooperation between governments, which will be the result of compromises and agreements concluded in some dark rooms. Today it is not in the national interest. I’m not sure it will get easier, we will need an experienced crew to keep the Greek ship stable in the choppy waters we are sailing on and I believe we will continue sailing in the coming years,” he stressed, repeating that the May 21 vote this is the decisive ballot box.

“Why do I hear many people say: “Since there will probably be a second urn with a reinforced analog, why is the first urn so important?”. I answer them for two reasons. First, because in the first vote we have to send a strong message about who will rule Greece the next day. Strong New Democracy, so who do you want in government, who do you want as prime minister. The second reason is that we need to prevent the scriptpolitical monster”, which I think gives goosebumps to many Greek citizens. Consider the Tsipras-Androulakis-Varoufakis joint government scenario. Varoufakis will return as finance minister, Tsipras as prime minister, I don’t know what other officials, Polakis as health minister. I don’t know what else you can think of. However, this scenario, which we call a “government of losers,” is mathematically possible. And when Mr. Tsipras says to me, “I’m not going to form a government of the vanquished,” I tell you, here from Megapolis, that I don’t believe a single word of what Mr. Tsipras says. If the beans come out, I have no doubt that he will not hesitate to do so,” he stressed.

“We will not become SYRIZA in terms of the quality of public speaking”

The Prime Minister also urged ND officials and friends to fight with dignity before the elections. “We will not become SYRIZA and we will not become SYRIZA under any circumstances in terms of the quality of public discourse, in terms of vulgarity and in terms of toxicity. Because you see, with the recent events that have come to light, of those who have been digging a hole of toxicity and baptizing an entire faction – you remember those hashtags on the internet, #rapists, #children lovers and all these incredible abominations that we listened to. You see how life brings like this, and all these hardships turn into a boomerang. We are not going to do the same. And I will ban any of our leaders from using political speech of this “quality.” We have a project that we can protect. We have a program for the next four years, which we will present in detail next week,” he stressed.

Earlier, Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the anniversary celebrations at Astros Kynourias dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Second National Assembly.

“Each such anniversary is an opportunity for historical reflection on how the revolutionary Greeks then tried to organize their state, the affairs of the state. To protect the rights of the individual, drawing inspiration from the most liberal constitutions of the West at the time. And it is this lesson that should accompany us in today’s historical situation. If we have learned anything along the path of a nation in these 200 years, it is that whenever we have united, we have been able to make great leaps into the future. And during the revolution, unfortunately, we paid the price for strife and internal strife,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis and added:

“However, we also overcame these difficulties, moved forward, created an independent Greek state. And since then, despite the difficulties, despite the problems, despite the setbacks, the course of the country has been the course of progress. This path of progress of the country must continue, this is the main question and the main request of citizens in the May 21 elections, whether we continue to move forward or turn back. Happy birthday and congratulations to the organizers of this truly wonderful event.”
