According to a poll published on Friday and cited by AFP and News.ro, Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has returned to its lowest level since he became president of France at 26% after announcing the pension reform.

According to the survey, the French head of state has lost two percentage points since the end of March and “returned to the level reached” at the beginning of the “yellow vest” crisis in October 2018.

Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne lost one percentage point, with 27% of those polled saying they rated her performance well – her weakest showing since she took office in May 2022.

After the approval of the pension reform a week ago by the Constitutional Council and its immediate announcement by Emmanuel Macron, anger still prevails among 45% of people polled, but it has decreased by three percentage points.

Conversely, feelings of humility rise by eight percentage points to 24%, the highest level ever reached.

The French are unhappy with the law and its quick promulgation

The share of French who want the continuation of social mobilization also increases by three percentage points to 63%. Almost three-quarters of French people (74%) believe that Macron “was wrong to quickly promulgate the law”, fearing that the decision would “inflame public anger”.

They are very skeptical of the goals set by Emmanuel Macron in a televised speech on Monday night.

Thus, 69% of them believe that the head of state did not live up to their expectations, 73% do not believe that the goals are realistic, and 74% do not believe that they are able to restore their mandate.

The survey was conducted on April 18 and 19 on a representative sample of 1,002 people aged 18 and over using the quota method with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.4 to 3.1 percentage points.
