OUR Stefanos Tsitsipas maintained his streak by never losing to Alex De Minor at the ATP level and reached the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona today (21/4).
The top Greek tennis player, ranked 5th in the world rankings, defeated – for the ninth time at ATP level – the 24-year-old Australian (19th) in the quarterfinals “Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 6-4, 6-2, after a match that lasted approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes.and received a “ticket” to “4”, where he will fight with the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (No. 20 in the world) with the “prize” of reaching the final.
Once there was a break in the first set and Tsitsipas got lucky and took a 2-1 lead. Immediately after that, he had his own pitch at 3:1 and, despite the efforts of De Minor, eventually came out on top 6:4. The second set started well for the Greek champion, because after 1:0 De Minora made two “breaks” on the opponent and, at the same time, using his own serve, took the lead 5:1. The Aussie cut the score to 5-2 but then Tsitsipas kept his serve going 6-2 in the set and a win that sends him to meet Lorenzo Muzzetti at 4.
It is worth noting that Tsitsipas and Museti have met three times at the ATP level in the past, while the Greek champion had the same number of victories. In particular, the leading Greek knocked out the 21-year-old Italian in the semi-finals of the 2021 tournament in Acapulco, in the “quartet” of the 2021 Lyon tournament, and also in the first round of last year’s Roland Garros.
