Twitter has removed the “publicly funded media” tag, which implies government interference with editorial content, from some accounts such as National Public Radio (NPR) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), their accounts revealed on Friday.
Apart from NPR and CBC, the tag previously read as “state media” was also missing from the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC) Twitter account.
Earlier this month, NPR and CBC suspended their activities on the social media platform, arguing that the label does not accurately reflect their management structure.
In an interview with the BBC last week, Elon Musk said the company is trying to be “precise” and is considering a label change.
“Our goal is to be as honest and accurate as possible. We are changing the label to “public funding”, which I think is not so reprehensible,” Musk said.
