US President Joe Biden may announce his candidacy for the 2024 election next week, several media reported on Thursday, AFP reports.

According to the Washington Post and CNN in particular with reference to anonymous sources, Joe Biden will start his presidential campaign in a video.

The Washington Post named the date Tuesday, April 25, which coincides with its announcement in 2019, when Joe Biden entered the race to defeat President Donald Trump. The Daily, however, stresses that the plans of Joe Biden’s team are not finalized and that the announcement may be delayed.

Already the oldest sitting president in US history at age 80, Joe Biden would be 86 at the end of his second term if he wins.

His main opponent in the Republican camp at the moment is Donald Trump, which opens up the possibility of a rematch in the 2020 elections.

In 2019, Democrat Joe Biden announced his candidacy via video as well. Although many initially saw him as a candidate for a politician who left the political world after his term as Vice President Barack Obama ended, the former senator from Delaware rose to prominence by winning his party’s nomination and then defeating Donald Trump.

Joe Biden has hinted several times that he will run for re-election, including during his trip to Ireland last week when he said: “I told you I plan to run again.”

Supporters of Joe Biden have indicated, however, that he sees no urgency in officially entering the race for a new presidential term.

The Republican camp will face off in what is expected to be a divisive internal battle for the presidential nomination, as the White House tenant takes advantage of the lack of serious Democratic challengers to challenge him for the nomination. (Agerpress)
