The most prestigious car brands such as Ferrari, have always opposed electric cars while defending their thermal sports cars. Witness the famous “Ferrari amendment”, which provides preferential treatment for manufacturers of exclusive cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Maserati.
But now the trend is toward electric cars, and the transition is inevitable, even for the manufacturers most reluctant to the idea. The prancing horse firm has just confirmed it will introduce its own the first electric car in 2025.
Electric Ferrari: among 15 new models
This is John Elkannchairman of Ferrari, as well as the chairman of Stellantis, who spoke more about the brand’s strategy for the coming years during a recent meeting with the company’s shareholders.
Ferrari plans to bring to market in general 15 new models from 2023 to 2026including its first all-electric vehicle, expected in 2025. The last two models of the Italian company, Ferrari 296 GTB/GTS plug-in hybrid and Purosangue SUV, have expanded the product portfolio of the brand, “a record number of orders until 2024”according to the Italian-American leader.
This is an additional step that Ferrari is going to take with the appearance of this first 100% electric model: indeed, since 2019, the Italian firm has embarked on electrification and produced no less than four cars with a hybrid drive.
Electric Ferrari: heir to Formula 1
The future electric Ferrari will benefit from the know-how of the Maranello-based firm in the competition: since 2009, the brand has developed its hybrid offering thanks to its achievements in Formula 1. The first electric Ferrari will naturally be the heir to these technologies.
Indeed, Ferrari’s research and development teams have invested heavily in this area, and numerous patents have been filed in this regard to protect the brand’s intellectual property and its technological innovations in electrification.
In 2023, Ferrari is set to continue its commercial development and strengthen its commitment to Formula 1, where it intends to regain dominance in the championship. With this evolution, maybe one day we’ll see Ferrari enter Formula E?
