“Ukraine is following with interest the efforts of the President of Brazil to find a solution to end the war. At the same time, the approach that puts the victim and the aggressor on the same level and accuses the countries that help Ukraine to defend itself against deadly aggression of encouraging war, does not correspond to the real state of affairs,” says his Facebook page. Oleg Nikolenko, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“We, like no one else in the world, strive to stop Russian aggression based on the peace formula proposed by President Zelensky,” he added, stressing that Ukraine “does not need to be convinced” of the need for peace, because the war is being waged on its territory.

Nikolenko also stated that Kyiv invited Luis Inacio Lula da Silva to visit Ukraine to understand the “real reasons” and “essence of Russian aggression” as well as its consequences for global security.

The US criticized the president of Brazil for his comments about the war in Ukraine

Nikolenko’s reaction came after the White House sharply criticized Brazil’s president on Monday night, accusing him of promoting Russian and Chinese propaganda about the war launched by President Vladimir Putin on February 24 last year.

“In this particular case, Brazil is repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda, regardless of the facts,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in Washington after Lula de Silva accused Washington of “encouraging war” in Ukraine.

“Europe and the USA continue to contribute to the continuation of the war. In the conditions in which they have to sit at the table and say: “Enough”, – also confirmed the president of Brazil.

“We are grateful to our Brazilian friends for their excellent understanding of the genesis of this situation” in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded on Monday before a scheduled meeting with President Lula da Silva.

Earlier, the president of Brazil said that Ukraine should give up Crimea in order to reach a peace agreement with Russia, a proposal that Kyiv rejected with the vote of Oleg Nikolenko.

Commenting on this proposal by the Brazilian president, John Kirby said on Monday that his statements were “baseless”.
