​Mark Williams led 5-4 after the first day of the duel with Jimmy Robertson, but made an impressive comeback (winning six frames in a row) to reach the last 16 of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible.

Mark Williams makes impressive return to face Jimmy Robertson at CM Snooker 2023

Ranked 27th in the world, Jimmy caught the eye after edging out multiple world champion Mark Williams 5-4.

However, upon returning to the game table, the Welshman played a different score and, winning the first two frames, never gave up the initiative.

Williams won with a score of 10-5, and in the 1/8 finals he will meet the Belgian Luca Bresel, currently the ninth player in the world.

We will remind, the Welshman Mark Williams won the title of world champion from the Crucible three times: in 2000, 2003 and 2018.

Hossein Wafaei (10-6 with Ding Junhui) and Mark Allen (World No. 3, 10-5 with Zhenyi Fan) also qualified for the round of 16 on Monday.

How to play at the World Snooker Championship

  • First round matches will be played on a best of 19 frames basis. The second round will be best of 25 frames, the same as the quarters.
  • In the semi-finals, the winner will be determined by the “best of 33 shots” system. Finally, in the grand final, the winner will be decided after the “best of 35 frames”.

How it will be in the final

  • There will be 8 frames in the first session of the final. The second session will consist of 9 frames, the third will consist of 8 frames. Finally, the final session will have a maximum of 10 frames (may or may not all be played, depending on the score on the table).

Second place: £200,000

Semi-Final: £100,000

Quarters: £50,000

Second round: £30,000

First round: £20,000.
