Volkswagen continues to expand its range of 100% electric IDs. After the ID.3, ID.4, ID5, ID.6 in China, and even the ID.2, which will arrive by 2025 and was presented as a concept a few weeks ago, here is the ID. .7! With this new model, the manufacturer from Wolfsburg does not hide its intentions. He even claims that it is the flagship of his line and even the flagship of the ID line! And this is in all areas, as for road maintenance, embedded technologieswith perceived quality on board but also above allautonomy as Volkswagen claims at least 700 km with the largest battery!
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): a large high-class sedan
If we have already been able to see the silhouette of this ID.7, in particular with the ID.Aero concept presented in 2022 or at the CES 2023 exhibition in Las Vegas under camouflage last January, this time it is Good ! Volkswagen’s large electric sedan unveiled in broad daylight.
From the very beginning, the highlighted element remains the template of the model. It is big and long! Almost 4.96 meters long. We are a few centimeters away from the Tesla Model S. On the other hand, the sedan is 1.54 meters tall and 1.86 meters wide. The wheelbase is 2.97 meters, which means plenty of room for passengers. And that’s good, that’s what we ask of him. The ID.7 was designed to be a great touring car, durable and above all very comfortable for its passengers. Finally, despite its XXL size, the ID.7 claims a turning radius of just 10.9 meters, equal to that of the Golf 8!
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): a design that promotes aerodynamics
The front end is quite classic and reminds us of many other models in the ID range. A strip of LEDs runs along the entire front panel, which connects two headlights equipped with IQ.Light technology. Furthermore, it seems clear that aerodynamics were very important in the stylistic choices, such as the side air intakes present on the gills. The Cx (coefficient of drag) is also 0.23 on this sedan, which remains a very good result. Only the EQS, Ioniq 6 and Model S fare better.
The ID.7 has a large, rather elegant gloss black roof and an aluminum roof arch that runs across the entire body to the tailgate. Glazed surfaces are very large, like a huge windshield. Finally, at the back, an elegant LED strip connects the two lights. The rather deep, but quite narrow in height trunk is 532 liters.
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): more sophisticated and spacious interior
Once inside, we were quite pleasantly surprised. If we were disappointed by the interiors of the ID.4 and ID.5, Volkswagen is clearly improving its large sedan. If you don’t mind the elements (we’re sticking with the classic design for the ID series), the overall feel is more premium. Materials are chosen a little better, always with plenty of vegan leather, and slightly foamed plastic is present on all parts of the instrument panel. If you stay below the Mercedes or BMW models, there is progress, and this should be emphasized.
The tiny screen in front of the driver is integrated into the dashboard, supported by a huge 15-inch panel in the center. Volkswagen also announces that the entire infotainment system has been significantly redesigned for maximum responsiveness. In addition, a state-of-the-art projection display with 3D elements will be installed for the driver.
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): passengers will not be left behind
Volkswagen also introduces brand new special seats with this sedan called “ErgoActive“. These so-called “intelligent” seats adapt to indoor conditions and automatically heat or ventilate when needed, in addition to massaging. And, most importantly, the same enveloping seats are available for the passengers in the back seat!
More precisely, the latter will be extremely well placed at the rear of this ID.7. Thanks to its long wheelbase (2.96 m), the comfort of living on board is a record: there is enough space for the legs, as well as for the head. And this, despite such a profile of a long coupe-sedan. Finally, the smart panoramic glass roof can instantly dim with touch controls. This new liquid crystal technology also protects against UV rays, letting plenty of light into the cabin.
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): range of 700 km
For its large sedan, Volkswagen is planning two different versions with the same engine but two separate batteries:
- ID.7 Pro S: a battery with a useful capacity of 86 kWh provides up to 700 km of autonomy*
- ID.7 Pro: a battery with a useful capacity of 77 kWh provides up to 615 km of autonomy *
*Figures according to the WLTP standard
Note that the batteries will support DC fast charging up to 200kW for the Pro S version and 170kW for the Pro.
Finally, on the engine front, this ID.7 has a single permanent magnet synchronous unit that is located at the rear for rear-wheel drive only. He offers 286 hp (210 kW) power for 545 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is also less than 7 seconds. It is also the first MEB platform fully developed by Volkswagen.
Volkswagen ID.7 (2023): Coming next fall
At the moment, the Pro version should start at 60,000 euros, but the price of the Pro S model has not been announced. Marketing should be coming soon to hit dealerships next fall!
