
The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, is on a tour of Latin America from Monday to Friday, the Russian news agency TASS reports, the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow reports.
“Starting from April 17 and ending on April 21, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit several Latin American countries, including Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia will have a busy program, which will include meetings with the leaders of these countries and with foreign ministers,” News.ro reported in a press release of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the purpose of Lavrov’s visit is to strengthen “mutually beneficial” cooperation in “political, trade-economic, educational, humanitarian, cultural and other spheres.”
“The meetings should be devoted to issues of strengthening the legal framework of the modern world, which is based on the UN Charter,” Moscow said.
“Latin America is a friendly region, one of the centers of the formation of a multipolar world, and Russia intends to maintain a dynamic dialogue with it and develop constructive cooperation, free from any dictate from the outside,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
