Announcement about the emergency in Sudan issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among other things, it is reported that our embassy in Cairo, which has parallel accreditation in Sudan, is in constant contact with Metropolitan Nubian Saturday.

“In addition, the Greek Ambassador in Cairo contacted the head of the EU Delegation to Sudan (Khartoum) and it was decided that the EU Delegation would assist in ensuring the security of the Greeks in Sudan. The Greek Ambassador in Cairo is also in touch with the President of the Greek Community in Khartoum.”

“From the first moment when the security situation in Sudan deteriorated due to armed conflicts there, the Foreign Ministry immediately issued a Notice asking the Greeks in Sudan to observe the maximum possible security measures and avoid unnecessary movements.

At the same time, on behalf of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, our embassy in Cairo, which has parallel accreditation in Sudan, is in constant contact with the Metropolitan of Nubia, Mr. M. Saturday. In addition, the Greek Ambassador in Cairo contacted the Head of the EU Delegation to the Sudan (Khartoum) and it was decided that the EU Delegation would assist in ensuring the security of the Greeks in Sudan. The Greek Ambassador in Cairo is also in touch with the President of the Greek Community in Khartoum.

By order of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the crisis management unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was immediately activated, which is in contact and coordination with other EU Member States through the system of consular cooperation. The Crisis Management Unit is also in touch with Metropolitan Savvas.

The main concern at present remains the security of the Greeks in Sudan. It is necessary to comply with what is stated in yesterday’s corresponding order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two wounded Greeks are in the hospital, there is no information about other injured Greeks yet. For everything new, there will be a corresponding update.
