The history of the trees on the banks of Leteos
According to the Trikala Center for Environmental Education, the planting of poplars in the Liteos River took place around the mid-1950s.
A decade later, more substantial aesthetic work began: the erection of stone walls on the slopes of the central bridge and the construction of a small dam with hidden lighting and jets.
In 1979, the decision was made to prune whites, after strong complaints from residents about the annoying presence of their down throughout the city, especially during their flowering period, in the spring. In their place, Canadian plane trees were planted, which today are the main green lungs in the city center.
Liteos is one of the four rivers of Trikala (Liteos, Agiamoniotis, Pineos, Kumerkis).
