
A Canadian Pacific freight train derailed and caught fire near a village in central Maine. USA (northeast), as a result of which three railway workers were slightly injured.
The Maine Forest Service said a total of nine wagons, six of which were loaded with “timber and electrical wiring,” derailed “in a wooded area where they caught fire and started a small wildfire.”

But the train’s carriages laden with hazardous materials did not derail, according to the same source, who assured them there was “no risk” of them leaking or catching fire.
The crash is attributed to in situ damage to the tracks, possibly due to sliding of melted ice and debris.
Earlier, the Rockwood Fire Department posted a photo of the derailed train on Facebook and urged residents to “avoid” the area.
