Iran: Tehran will prosecute those who urge women not to wear the hijab

People who urge women not to wear the hijab (a head covering worn by Muslim women) will be prosecuted in criminal courts and will not have the right to appeal any court decision against them, the deputy prosecutor general to Iran said today.

His comments came as a growing number of women in Iran are violating the mandatory women’s dress code and showing up bare-haired in malls, restaurants, shops, streets and other public places.

Several well-known women, as well as women who promote activism, have also posted photos of themselves without the hijab on social media in recent months.
