Italy’s antitrust regulator announced on Friday that it has opened an investigation into possible abuse of its dominant position in the electric car charging station segment by Enel SpA, the country’s largest utility company, Reuters reported.
The investigation involves Enel subsidiaries Enel X Way and Enel X Way Italia, as well as Ewiva, which is part of a joint venture between Enel and the German group Volkswagen AG.
Enel clarifies that its subsidiaries have always acted in accordance with the rules and they “will be able to demonstrate the full legality and correctness of their actions” before the antimonopoly authorities.
On Thursday, Enel announced that it plans to add more than 10,000 charging points for electric vehicles in the US by 2030, and a total of more than two million in North America. (Agerpres)
