Russian military forces are delivering large quantities of cargo and water to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which Moscow seized in southeastern Ukraine after its invasion in 2022, Ukraine’s Atomic Energy Agency said today.
Energoatom said this could mean Russia is preparing to trap workers inside the plant due to a sharp reduction in certified personnel at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in anticipation of a spring Ukrainian counterattack.
Russia did not immediately comment.
“Given the acute shortage of nuclear specialists needed for the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and fearing a counterattack from Ukraine, (the Russians) are preparing to hold the workers hostage for a long time,” Energoatom said.
