Matthew McConaughey says he and his close friend Woody Harrelson are considering a DNA test after realizing they might be brothers, writes The Guardian.
McConaughey told Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that the two actors learned from his mother that she knew Harrelson’s father, maybe intimately.
“You know where I start and where he ends, where he starts and where I end, it’s always been a blurred line,” the 53-year-old actor said.
- “And that’s part of our relationship, isn’t it? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of his pictures are me. His family believes that many of my photos are of him.
- In Greece a few years ago, we talked about how close we and our families are. And my mom was there and she said, “Woody, I met your father.” Everyone knew the ellipsis Mom left after “I met him.” I met him and I was loaded,” said the actor.
McConaughey said the comment prompted the two actors to explore their family history.
“We kept looking for what this ‘acquaintance’ meant, did some math and found out that Harrelson’s dad was on vacation at the same time my mom and dad were going through their second divorce. In addition, there are possible receipts and locations in West Texas where meetings, meetings, or the time they met may have taken place.”
Harrelson’s father, Charles, was a murderer who was first convicted in 1960 for armed robbery.
He was imprisoned in 1973 for murder and released after five years for good behavior.
In 1981, he received two life sentences for the murder of a district judge. He also claimed to have killed JFK and died in prison in 2007.
In a 2012 interview with The Guardian, Harrelson said he “got on quite well with his father”, adding: “My parents divorced when I was young, he was rarely around.”
Both McConaughey and Harrelson, 61, have two brothers.
They appeared together on screen in EDtv and True Detective and are set to reunite for an Apple TV+ comedy series called Brother From Another Mother, in which they play fictional versions of living together in Texas . farm. The series does not yet have a specific release date.
McConaughey said they are still debating whether to do a DNA test to confirm the relationship between the two. (news.ro)
