The verdict in the doping case against Simona Halep is postponed, and the former world leader will miss another important competition.

Simona Halep will not play at the WTA in Rome

Halep, who failed a doping test during the US Open-2022, is not on the list of players who will be present at the tournament in Rome.

Simona (WTA 26) and Ayla Tomljanovic (WTA 36, injured) are the only Top-70 players who will miss the “WTA 1000” competition.

Romania will be represented at “Foro Italico” by Iryna Begu (37 WTA), Sorana Kirstia (41 WTA), Ana Bohdan (58 WTA) and Patricia Tsig (703 WTA, protected rating).

Know:

  • Halep (31) played her last official match at the US Open 2022, when she was knocked out in the opening round by Ukrainian Daria Snigur.
  • Simona Halep is temporarily suspended from tennis due to a positive test for Roxadustat (conducted during the US Open 2022).
  • Simona’s case will be heard by Sport Resolutions, an independent court in London that hears doping cases in white sport.
  • However, if innocence cannot be proven, Simone has one more appeal: the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
  • It will be recalled that the maximum suspension that Halep could receive is 4 years.
