Michael Jordan left the basketball court in 2003, but the NBA legend continues to break records even after 20 years. Sotheby’s auction house announced that a pair of sports shoes of the American was sold on Tuesday for a record amount of 2.2 million dollars.
Michael Jordan, the most expensive sneakers ever sold
Jordan wore this Bred (black and red) Air Jordan 13 during Game 2 (93-88, Michael scored 37 points) of the Chicago Bulls’ 1998 Finals win over the Utah Jazz.
The auction house said that these are “the most expensive sneakers ever sold.”
Sotheby’s reports that Jordan gave a pair of balls to the kid after that game, but they were no longer in the kid’s possession at the time of the sale. Neither the seller nor the buyer is known.
Michael Jordan items are highly sought after by collectors, and the former NBA superstar currently holds the records for the most expensive jersey ($10.1 million / September 2022) and the most expensive sneakers ($2.2 million / April 2023).
