Ex-president USA Donald Trump has filed an appeal against a judge’s decision ordering former Vice President Mike Pence to testify in a special prosecutor’s inquiry into the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, US media reported.
Lawyers for the former Republican president have filed an appeal following the decision to investigate the 2020 presidential election.
Pence said last week that he did not intend to appeal a decision requiring him to testify before a federal grand jury about conversations he had with Trump before the latter’s supporters attacked the Capitol. The judge ruled that Pence could refuse to answer questions related to the events of January 6th.
Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November to lead the investigation against Trump, is presenting his evidence to several grand juries. Key questions are whether Trump obstructed a peaceful transfer of power after his electoral defeat to Joe Biden and the suppression of documents he moved to his Mar-a-Lago, Florida mansion after leaving the White House.
