Leakage of classified documents, most of which concerned Ukraineposes a “very serious” national security risk United Statescalculated today by the Pentagon.
The fact that these documents are circulating online poses “a very serious threat to national security and could potentially contribute to the spread of disinformation,” Defense Department spokesman Chris Meagher told reporters.
The documents appear genuine, but the Pentagon says some of the images have been altered.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin first became aware of the leaked online documents on April 6. Senior officials also briefed the Congressional Homeland Security Committees on these developments.
