Romania is one of the European countries with the highest level of systematic bullying, i.e. aggressive actions against children at school. According to data from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD, data for 2018), 12% of 15-year-old students said that they are very often victims of bullying. This percentage is equal to that registered in schools in Russia, and is exceeded only by Bulgaria and Malta with 14%.
On average across OECD countries, 8% of 15-year-olds said they were often bullied. Another 23% were bullied at least several times a month.
The prevalence of bullying varies greatly by child age, country, and culture, but verbal and relational bullying are the most common types of bullying among middle and high school students.
