But is it? PlayRatings’ study – as reported by the Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello sport – on the most expensive transfers in history, measured according to the current valuation and excluding inflation, comes to a different conclusion.
Suffice it to say that the transfer of Neymar to the Parisians is only in the eighth – and last – position in the corresponding list!
According to the study, these are the best transfers in history:
- Ronaldo – From Barcelona to Inter in 1997 instead of 28 million euros. Current value 433 million euros.
- Diego Armando Maradona – From Barcelona to Naples in 1984 for 6.84 million euros. Current value 342 million euros.
- Michel Platini – From Saint-Étienne to Juventus in 1982 for 3.42 million euros. Current value 336 million euros.
- Christian Vieri – From Lazio to Inter in 1999 for 46 million euros. Current value 336 million euros
- Marco Van Basten – From Ajax to Milan in 1987 for 1.14 million euros. Current value 329 million euros.
- Gabriel Omar Batistuta – From Fiorentina to Roma in 2000 instead of 36 million euros. Current value of 281 million euros.
- Gonzalo Higuain – From Napoli to Juventus in 2016 instead of 90 million euros. Current value 264 million euros.
- Neymar – From Barcelona to PSG in 2017 for 226 million euros. Current value 226 million euros.
