In his first interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer since the crash, Jeremy Renner says he and his 27-year-old grandson, Alex, were pulling the Ford Raptor out of the snow with a snowplow, and after they got the car out, Alex connected the chain between the two cars.

The actor says that he was in the plow when it began to slide on the ice. Worried that his grandson might get under the plow, the actor stuck out one leg, trying to look back at Alex, but the handbrake did not pull.

  • “You must not be outside the vehicle when you are driving it.
  • It’s like driving a car with one foot, but that’s about it.
  • This is my mistake, and I paid for it,” said the actor.

After that, the actor lost his balance and fell from the plow cab. He tried to jump back into the car to stop it. He stepped on the plow tracks, which threw him forward, and the vehicle ran over him, breaking 30 bones, crushing one of his lungs and puncturing his liver.

  • “Then, by the way, I screamed when I got under the plow. I kept telling myself: not today, bastard, not today,” the actor noted.

Journalist Diane Sawyer listed the actor’s injuries:

  • “Eight ribs are broken in 14 places. Right knee, right ankle broken, left tibia broken, left ankle broken, right collarbone broken, right shoulder broken. Jaw impact, broken lower jaw. A lung collapsed and your liver was punctured by a rib, which sounds scary.’

Actor Jeremy Renner admitted that he wrote a farewell note to his family while in the hospital.

Neighbors who provided first aid to the 52-year-old actor, known for his role as Marvel superhero Hawkeye in the “Avengers” film series, said they found him bleeding, breathing heavily and with a fractured skull.

Waking up in the hospital, Jeremy Renner asked his relatives for forgiveness with a sign that means “I’m sorry!”

  • “It’s my fault. I’m sorry that my actions have caused so much suffering,” the American star also said.

Doctors fixed his rib fractures with titanium rods and screws, and used metal for leg fractures. In the interview, the actor appears in motion with the help of an orthopedic frame. Because of the injuries he received, he still performs several hours of physical therapy every day.

Jeremy Renner was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Evil Queen (2008) and for Best Supporting Actor for The Town (2010). .

The actor is expected to return to Hollywood next Tuesday for a gala event celebrating the series “Renervations,” in which the actor helps repurpose old vehicles like buses that he donates to communities in need.
